THE EXAM: BASIC INFO
SECTION 1 (60% OF YOUR SCORE!!)
The MULTIPLE CHOICE portion is 40% of your overall score. It is 55 questions, 55 minutes long. Here's how much of each period is actually covered on the test so you can prioritize when you study.
PERIOD 1 (1491-1607): 5% (2-3 QUESTIONS)
PERIODS 2-5 (1607-1877): 45% (24-25 QUESTIONS)
PERIODS 6-8 (1865-1980): 45% (24-25 QUESTIONS)
PERIOD 9 (1980-PRESENT): 5% (2-3 QUESTIONS)
The SHORT ANSWER portion is also part of Section 1, and 20% of your overall score. Ultimately, you will have to answer 3 short answer questions in 45 minutes.....you'll wanna only spend about 12-13 minutes per question. There will be 4 SAQs presented, but you won't have to answer all 4:

Each SAQ will test you on different periods & using specific source styles!!...here they are so you can prioritize your studying & be familiar with the format:
Question 1: PERIODS 3-8 ... SECONDARY SOURCE (description of an event from someone who wasn't actually there, could be years later or only a decade later)
Question 2: PERIODS 3-8 ... PRIMARY SOURCE IN TEXT or A PICTURE
Question 3: PERIODS 1-5 ... NON-STIMULUS (just asking you a question to answer)
Question 4: PERIODS 6-9 ... NON-STIMULUS ALSO
SECTION 2 (40% OF YOUR SCORE!!)
The DOCUMENT-BASED QUESTION is the second most important component of your score...it makes up 25% of your overall score. You'll have 60 minutes (15 min. recommended for planning, 45 for actually writing it out), and it'll only cover Periods 3-8.
For the LONG-ESSAY QUESTION you'll have 35 minutes to write it out (planning time included in the 35 minutes). The LEQ makes up the smallest part of your score...it only makes up 15% of your score.
